    BUFFY

    The Official "Willow's Ex-Boyfriends" Club, Membership 2 by [info]kindkit, PG-13
    Oz/Xander

Perfect Xander-babble, joints, and guy-bonding at the Willow Ex-Boyfriends Club. Fantastic.

I really miss my little werewolf sometimes.

    MCR

Eighteen Forever (Sun Poisoned) by [info]paloma_cayendo, R for language
    Frank/Gerard

A high school AU with a Sophomore Frankie and Senior Gerard who talk about superheroes and tattoos and mohawked babies with This is what Aus should be: wonderful and sweet and sex wrapped up in smiles and all of it totally, utterly believable. One of the most heartwarming Frankie/Gerard depictions I’ve read.

Ride (so get your gun and meet me by the door) by [info]littlerhymes
    Frank/Gerard

Sometimes your heart doesn’t recognize your enemy, even if your head does.

A brilliantly crafted AU urban tale about rough boys, bikes, betrayal, and hope. The voices in this are perfection and it will wrench your heart right out it is so beautiful.

    Absolutely fantastic.

    EMINEM

    Two Ficlets
    by [info]idyll, R
    Marshall/50 Cent

I am not an Em/50 person. Never have been. I like the contrast of Marshall's toughness with someone pretty, fey, other.

However, I tip my hat to those who write it and write it well, and these two brief gems capture the dynamic in a few broad brushstrokes.

Yeah. It would be like that.

Spare and fast, kind of brittle, and very good.

    CSI

Breath, Eyes, Memory by [info]scarletts_awry, FRAO (no clue what that is; seems to translate to R)
    Danny/Mac

A wonderfully well written account of Mac and Danny from CSI: NY. The characterizations are spot on: Mac's taciturn voice and Danny's Bronx echo in my head with every word.

This is one of those shows that I didn't think was slashable in my head and scarletts_awry proved me wrong.

Really well written and well paced. Highly recommended.

    HARRY POTTER

    The Lodger by [info]mad_martha, PG-13
    Harry/Draco

It had been a while since I read a really good H/D fic and Mad Martha, a well-known BNF in that fandom, delivers.

    Gen

    THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

I Seek A Silent Fortress by [info]apocalypsos, PG-13 for language

Yeah, yeah. I know its Gen. My reputation will never recover.

However this is some fine, fine writing. I don't know why there's such a small amount of Stephen King fic, slash or otherwise. The man's work is made for fic on so many levels, but who knows.

This is a wonderfully written AU to the movie and I really can hear Red' s voice in my head clear as day. Love it for being Shawshank fic and for realizing what I've always known: if anyone gave this man's 'verses half a chance oh the wonder that could be wrought.

    Xovers

    SUPERNATURAL, JOHNNY WEIR

Skates by [info]cf33, PG-13 for language

Only in fandom could you have teen!Johnny Weir and teen!Sam and Dean demon hunters in training. This is why I love fandom, my friends.

So cute you will sugar overload and not stop smiling, but funny enough so it’s not cloying. Especially good Sam and Dean voice. It's Gen. Yeah, YEAH.

    FALL OUT BOY/BACK STREET BOYS

Moments When You Can’t Deny What’s True by [info]nafs, PG for now
    Nick Carter/Patrick Stump

I don’t listen to the music. I’ve only seen FOB in pix from my FL. And it matters not one tin dime because this is fantastic. There is a reason this has been recced all over my FL. It hasn't? Well it SHOULD BE.

[info]nafs bridges the age gap so effortlessly it is like breathing and her Nick and Patrick are wonderful together as friends, collaborators, equals, and everything in between. Wonderful plot is very organic and I love the daily snippets on her LJ giving up glimpses of weave before the thing goes whole cloth. Just brilliant.

Even if you don't listen to FOB OR BSB give this a shot. I promise you'll go away smiling.

    FALL OUT BOY/MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE

    Polaris

    and

    Polaris, Outtake
    by Eleanor Lavish, R
    Frank/Patrick Stump

If members of Fall Out Boy and other bands and Frankie Iero all met in different circumstances? This would happen. I am not a FOB fan, but I have seen the band in question, and do confess to immediately liking Mr. Stump’s endearingly open face and array of hats. The author compares this to Sliding Doors, which I vaguely remember as possibly being a Gwyneth Paltrow film, but obviously not the point. The point is this wonderful bit of storytelling has amazing characterization, flows so smoothly it’s like breathing, and most of all, has the best grasp of why Mr. Stump and Mr. Iero are absolutely irresistible. Masterfully written xover.

Also, the outtake will melt your monitor.

    Great work all around.

    HARRY POTTER

Sometimes You Get Marshmallows by [info]florahart
    Harry/Draco

Brief, succint, and lyrical in its simplicity this Harry/Draco takes a simple premise and unfolds it so beautifully, crease by crease, to see the emotion within.

Quiet, strong, and perfect FloraHart hits this pitch just right.

    Life Is Good by [info]ms_semicolon
    Harry/Draco

Harry can see the beauty in life. Always.

It is Ms. Semicolon's genius to cut you with a whisper, draw you in with a sigh. Her Harry and Draco are some of the most beautifully crafted I've ever read and, though her long works with the pairing have come to pass, she still bestows upon us, sometimes, these perfect, glimmering jewels.

A good ache. A wonderful hurt.

    MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE

    The Visitor by [info]iphignia939
    Gen

I have come late to Phig and her lovely, lovely fic but I'm glad I found her.

Written for a h/c challenge after The Incident with Gerard and Bob that scared the everloving crap out of the fandom and it is divine.

Bob and Gerard fussing and the coolest Death in the world.

Wouldn’t It Be Nice by [info]i_amthecosmos
    Bob/Gerard

There's a deftness and open-ness to Zillah's writing. She can convey so much with one word, one well chosen look. I never feel like she's working at it.

Bob loves Gerard and Gerard loves Bob, but Gerard Doesn't Do That.

Lovely brief interlude about how much is enough and whether you can live with it.

    I love Zillah.

    The Supermarket AU by [info]futureperfect
    Frankie/Gerard, among others

Restriction had me with her wonderful MCR vampire au ‘How To Be Dead’ and this effort, though a WIP, is no less wonderful.

Captures the struggle to discover what you really want and how much you want it. The characterizations are brilliant and I love her Frankie and Gerard so much.

Only Restriction could set something in a supermarket and make it a thing of fascination and delight. Just lovely.

It’s a bit between updates, but worth it every time. Take my word.

    N SYNC

    Ever Something by Jewlianna
    JuC

I don't rec a lot of fic where a character dies; no, that’s not exactly the objection. I don’t rec a lot of bereavement fic because my poor heart just can’t take it most of the time and, also, I think it’s a very hard thing to get right. The propensity to slide into a morass of angst and self indulgent h/c is enormous. My tolerance for that is pretty low.

To every hangup there is an exception, and this one's name is Jewlianna.

I've recced her before because I love the grounded, smooth flow of her writing, like breathing in and out. Also, like with some authors, I can tell how much she loves the boys, and loves writing about them.

The premise is basic enough: Justin's wife has died and JC helps. However, the fic is lovely beyond that. I buy that Justin has kids. I buy the kids. I buy everything because Jewlianna doesn't sell it; she gifts you with it.

Really a wonderful fic. Made me cry, but I am a sap, as we all know.

    Sentimental As Fuckby Tiffany Rawlins
    Eminem/JC

    I found this on a friend's friend’s friend’s....you get the drift.

Sharp, succint, and as black and white as bas relief sculpture this is little drablet has knife edges, heat, and so much depth it hits you like an uppercut.

    Tight, skillful writing. Good stuff.

    Jolene by [info]stellamira
    Nick/Justin/Lance

    Quietly dark apocalypse fic.

Says it’s part one of something but it stands wonderfully on its own. I admire authors who can get this dark because I never quite make it, shying away from the despair and heaviness, finding solace in the light. Stella doesn’t flinch and it’s good.

    Supernatural

And So To Soldier Onward by [info]obsessedmuch
    Wincest

I love fics that can give you a whole truckload of meaning with a few sharp, finely drawn words. This is such a fic.

Succint, dark, poignant, and this is Sam and Dean and the edge of the world.

    Everything's changed and nothing has.

    Wonderful.

Turn It Over And 2 by [info]ethrosdemon

What is better than one fantastically written, hot, funny SN genderswitch fic? TWO fantastically written, hot, funny SN genderswitch fics!!!

Monkiedude and Ethros show us how it's done. And as often as they can.

    That's what I call reciprocity.

    BUFFY

    Tumble, Turn, Overlow by [info]tabaqui
    S/X

I love Tabby, man. I fucking love her.

This is a brutal train wreck of a fic written stark and unapologetic and beautiful. She's captured these two perfecty in a pained still life at the end of their rope, and it is gripping to read.

This is what this fandom means to me: strong stories like this that wrench your heart in your chest and the pain hurts so good. God, I miss it.

    Hearts Beat Time by [info]mosca

The fic that made me Johnny/Ben Agosto ‘shipper for life.

Wonderful, deft touch with first time fic and the ensuing awkwardness and joy and heat of trying not to be the more loving than loved, and figuring out which one you are.

Mosca really loves these boys. It is in every word and comma and sentence. She makes you love them, too.

Brilliant, romantic, and one of the best Johnny Weirs in fandom. You’ll love it.

    FIGURE SKATING SLASH

No More Than Reason by [info]mosca
    Ben/Johnny

Yes, figure skating fic. Shut up.

Shut up until you have read this and then come talk to me.

Because Mosca’s pedigree is outstanding. She writes panfandomly. She writes, or has has written, Buffy, Gilmour Girls, Veronica Mars, Firefly, Judging Amy, ER, and Angel: The Series, among others.

She has also taken this fandom, this unlikely, rare, queer as Christmas fandom, and crafted fics of such beauty. Her Ben Agosto/Johnny Weir fic has ruined me for any other skating pairing except my own Em/.Tay, which is AU, and does not count as such.

You don’t need to know a sit spin from a triple axel. You just have to want good fic excellently written.

Here, there is a contest. There can only be one winner. And is to win to lose after all?

Lovely, bitingly witty characterization. Just wonderful. Yes, I am a fangirl. Always, for her. *luvs*

    Lost In Translation by [info]helenish
    Qui Gon/Obi Wan- Star Wars
    For REALZ.

There are some authors I rec because I know, before I read word one, the fic will kick ass. I know the writing will be stellar. I know the characters will be believable and pitch perfect, and I know I will be glad I took the plunge, no matter how unlikely a pairing, the fandom, the premise.

    This is such a fic.

Because I don't read Star Wars slash, yo. Like. NO. Sci fi, as a rule, isn't really my forte, in fic or books, or tv, or movies, really.

    But this is HELENISH.

    And this is good.

Only she can take amnesia-sex-slave Qui Gon and put-upon sex Master Obi-wan and make you buy it. Make you believe.

Trust me and read. You won't be sorry.

    :-)

    Incredible by Matthew Haldeman Time

I can count on one finger the time I’ve recced original fic on here because it just isn’t done. I salute and admire those who write it and I wish them well but it usually ain’t my thing.

    Except for Matthew.

Now, Matthew has some issues; I’m not saying otherwise. The popfic can get a bit long in the artistic license, and Matthew does tend to play loose and free with RPS characterization sometimes.

But the original fic? Is some of the best stuff I’ve ever read. I love ALL the stories grouped together on the short stories page, but this is one of my favorites.

After all, who can resist a tall All-American jock and an Emo boy who are MFEO? These are precious and hot and darling and so, so real to me.

Read this and then follow the link for the second part. Then do yourself a favor and follow the Short Stories link at the bottom for more. Lush, funny, filling, brilliant. These make me want to be a better writer, and, more importantly, they just make me want to write.

    Marvelous.

Recs Update! Popslash and Buffy and Emo Boys, oh my!
It's been too long, amores, but here 'tis. An update with a whole slew of recs I've been accumlating since MARCH, omg.

For some reason, this time, I seemed to pick fics whose others just didn't deign to give a rating to! Is that a trend? I always rate my stuff....Anywhow, I was forced to guesstimate lots of the ratings. If said authors see this and take exception just let me know and I'll fix it.

Okay, chickies. On to the fic!

    The Taking Away by Jewlianna
    Justin/JC
Not rating listed but I’m thinking NC-17 to be safe.
    http://www.hazyphase.net/missedopportunities/takingaway.html

Lovely, lovely AU piece set in Florence, Italy where JC is a sculptor and Justin is his apprentice/muse. Really, I don't know how anyone can NOT want to read this.

This is the second of Jewlianna's fics I've recced and I'm developing a major love for how she crafts these guys: evenhanded, lyrical, yet down-to-earth writing that marries the scorching sex scenes like they were made for each other.

I love finding new authors to adore and I have! Go, read. Marvel.

    Light by MusicDiamond
    JC/Lance
PG-13 if I had to guess
    http://www.whitelies.net/musicdiamond/nsync/longer/light/lindex.html

I’ve developed a real appreciation for MusicDiamond’s particular style. She starts quiet, slow and builds this beautifully crafted world that draws you in and keeps you invested every step of the way. This AU started with the softest whisper that never really got any louder but spoke volumes.

About loss and love and hope and betrayal and loneliness and being alone and how they are not the same thing.

    I loved this very much.

    HARRY POTTER

    Momenti Diversi By **Zarah
    http://www.femgeeks.net/zarah/index-pop.htm
    Harry/Draco

Once again, a little clicking to get to the good stuff but well worth it: fist click on ‘Harry Potter’ on the left list of fandoms then scroll down to find ‘Momenti Diversi.’

I have no idea how I've missed this H/D series but thanks to Ladycat's call for nonangst!H/D I have seen the light, yes I have.

Harry has run away to Italy after Voldemort dies and Draco goes to get him back.

Lush, wonderful descriptions of the Italian scenery and wonderful cat-and-mouse Draco and you can see Harry falling and fighting and falling and the whole thing is just a joy to read.

A WIP, just as a warning, but one of the loveliest fics I've read on this pairing in a while. Absolutely engaging, skillful writing.

    The Crush Trilogy by **Zahra
    Harry/Draco
    Probably R
And Now for Something Completely Different: http://www.obsessedmuch.net/dysfunctional/different.html
Lemon Zingers and Strawberry Jam: http://www.obsessedmuch.net/dysfunctional/lemon.html
    Public Displays Of Affection: http://www.obsessedmuch.net/dysfunctional/public.html

To say the Harry/Draco 'ship is rife with angst is to say Jessica Simpson is slightly thick.

This is why finding a fic, any fic, that doesn't have them finding each other with a boatload of pain, tears, death, unforgivables and Avada Kedavras going all willy nilly is a find indeed.

I truly loved this little gem of a trilogy. All from Harry's POV it is three amusing, concise, funny slices of teen crushing and obsession with a side of lemon zingers and strawberry jam. Try it. It tastes really good.

**Just to point out—I believe these are TWO different authors, tho their names are similar.

Jacking Ghehena by Mirabella of [info]mirasfics
    Harry Potter/John Constantine
    NC-17 is my guess
    http://www.livejournal.com/users/mirasfics/34956.html#cutid1

I've recced Mira here before for her stunning Harry Potter epic The Shadow of His Wings and I’ve always wondered how she’d do when not constructing a long, intricate epic.

    This answers that in spades.

The pairing is a crossover and pairs Harry with John Constantine from the movie, NOT the text. I mean, John Constantine of all the damn people, and it is just as lyrical, sharp, and flawless as everything else Mira creates. She paints emotions, situations, and sex with a swath of words that is neither to heavy or too light, but just perfect. A wealth of information with just the right language.

This is abrupt and genius and wonderful and I didn't want it to end. I wanted more. Mira does that.

    HARRY POTTER RPS

    The Villain by [info]winterlive
    Tom Felton/Daniel Radcliffe
    PG-13
    http://www.livejournal.com/users/winterlive/86758.html

A short, sharp little ficlet about the real Draco and Harry and it tastes like a Granny Smith Apple- bitter with a hint of sweet. Just a hint.

I do heartily wish there were more of this rps pairing, but for now Winterlive more than does it justice.

Very good. I want some more.

    EMINEM

    Lose Yourself by [info]realm_of_ylith
    Marshall Mathers/Orlando Bloom
    NC-17 overall
    http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=realm_of_ylith&keyword=Lose+Yourself&filter=all

Ami offered me this pairing bit by delicious bit, revealing the fascination like origami and Realm of Ylith has taken that fascination and sculpted it into the most basic but intriguing premise in this AU fic.

Marshall is poor, has a baby and works a menial job. Orlando is a kept pretty boy and the ev0l wicked boyfriend is played by none other than Mr. Vin Deisel, and, my friends, how can you NOT want to read something like that? How I ask you?

This kid, who is all of eighteen, has a savvy way with characterization and plot, though her Orlando tends to be consistently helpless and fragile. If that doesn’t irk you then dive right in. I didn’t mind.

This is good stuff and she can only keep getting better with age. I, for one, can’t wait to see how that happens.

    HANSON

    The Photographer by J. Robinson
    Hanson Gen
    Barely R
    http://www.geocities.com/jr_sx/photographer.html

    *blink*

    Ho-lee shit.

I will be up front and say I don't rec a lot of gen fic here. I've nothing against it but I like my slash and I like to read pairings.

[info]akimbie, though, gave me the heads up on this brilliant gem of a ficlet and I can't believe I've gone this long without reading it!

It reminds me of a question posed by [info]bombay_gin not long ago, about how we would photograph Hanson if it were up to us.

    This story is exactly how.

All three personalities are captured perfectly, insecurities, vanity, hesitance and all, and it is a striking slice of writing that stays with you long after you're done reading.

And that last paragraph? I can't get that image out of my head at all.

Good, good stuff. Count on it.

    Blue and Black by Nicole
    Tay/JC
    R
    http://www.hansondoeshogwarts.com/

Okay. To get to this fic you click on the above link, click on 'Fiction', click on &Nicole, and it's the first one on the list. *whew* I swear I can't figure out to make that any shorter.

However, you all must believe me when I tell you the little extra effort is so, so worth it.

JC. Tay. The perfect black shirt. I mean, really. What more is there to SAY? Done in three vignettes that follow one fateful meeting to the next this fic is spare and so true to the characters I heard an audible 'click' in my head. The first scene in the clothing shop is priceless beyond belief and alone worth the price of admission.

Just a great, wonderfully done fic that manages to make me believe that every pairing and encounter does not need to turn into more than what it is, and that can be enough. I don't usually buy that, but this made me.

    With me? That's something.

    http://www.livejournal.com/users/reggie_mbq/1512973.html?view=6453261#t6453261

Warm, sharp little Hanson ficlet about growing up, away, and finding your way home.
For all its brevity there are layers to this, overlapped and almost translucent. My mind kept pondering nuances for a long time after.

One of my everlasting sorrows is how [info]lucylooo and [info]alexandriabrown don't seem to write, really write, long meaty epics anymore, in any fandom. I would give a great deal to read that again.

It's gems like this that say why Reggie should.

    http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=wesleysgirl&keyword=Saturation+%28by+Jane+and+me%29&filter=all

Giles/Any of the kids is just not a pairing I usually read. Certainly not while they were all in high school because skeevy! While I know, given my other fic proclivities this is amusing, there it is. Hangups; what do you do with 'em?

Apparently, you find a fic with a pairing you rarely read and see it recced by everyone you trust and admire and finally cave and, well, then you rec it, too.

I like this Giles and Xander. They are older, wiser and living in London together. Add a newly human Spike to the mix and you got gold, baby!

This is not hearts and flowers fluff, my friends. This is raw, pull-no-punches writing of the highest caliber that tackles all the complicated relationship dynamics in an arrangement of this sort. Be prepared and make sure your monitor is melt-resistant.

I love this fandom, still, and fics like this are why.

I'm a Nick/Greg 'shipper. We all know that. But I seem to have a soft spot for slim lab geeks as a whole because Ryan Wolfe off of CSI:Miami is just cute as a button with big soulful brown eyes and nerd hair and the charming self-deprecation and...you all get my drift.

There's not a whole lot of Greg/Ryan out there but I stumbled upon this WIP and liked it. The writer doesn't seem to have much confidence in their own writing, and there's a Nick Stokes/Eric Delko side story I'm not that into.(Eric being the nummy Puerto Rican crumpet on CSI: Miami) but I like the story, I do. Most of this is due to her really great grasp of Greg and Ryan's characterizations. She has the Greg babble down COLD, and Ryan is so endearingly tentative and shy and AWWWW.

She's up to six chapters and I hope there are more. Give it go for something a little different.

    ORIGINAL FIC

(Untitled) Emo Boys Snogging by [info]bexless

    Emo Boys

So there once was this bit of film that ran through my FL like wildfire, and there are lots of films like that: Ewan and Hayden kissing, Orlando and Dom/Viggo/Elijah kissing, etc. This one had two darling Emo boys making out and it was one of the most erotic things I'd ever seen. Immediately I wanted to read fic about it. Well, someone finally obliged and damn, is it good!

I will rarely, rarely rec original fic here, only because I don't run across original fic that's a) all that good or b) doesn't bore me shitless.

This, however, is bloody fucking brilliant, and like Kita said, I want a whole notebook of stories just like this one.

I already love these two and want to read more about the whole group. That's some good writing, folks.

Link to the video clip can be found in the forward.

If you haven't seen it, do. Then read the fic.

    You won't be sorry.

    Hayden Christiansen/ Ewan McGregor
    Hard R with some NC-17parts
    http://www.livejournal.com/users/ethrosdemon/157586.html?mode=reply

Ethrosdemon is the worst kind of crack pimp, man. She (at least I think she’s a she; I’m not really sure. I don’t think a guy could be this ruthless) will craft the most addictive, fascinating, brilliantly executed universes out of thin air and of people and situations you swear on your mama’s grave you wouldn’t read. She gets you good and hooked so that you refresh your Friends page every five minutes and wait with bated breath for the next segment. And then, she STOPS.

Now, I’m not one to say I’ve never just stopped a fic that people were reading. Far be it for me to throw stones. Ethros just seems to wait until you are waist deep in jonesin’ and then cuts you off.

This one, tho. This one she finished, and thank the fic gods for it!

This is Hayden Christiansen of the Star Wars saga and Ewan of the same with a smattering of Hollywood glitterati thrown in like diamonds on a velvet sky. Hayden is beautiful and fucked up and Viggo is supportive. Ewan is Ewan, Jude Law is a diva with unrequited love and Brad Pitt builds houses. A lot.

I could talk on and on and never get to the gist of why this fic is the brilliant, sexy satire that it is.

    Read and see for yourself.

    HANSON

    Babylon
    by Lauryn Beaufort
    Taylor Hanson/Scott Moffat

Sad and lost and with an ache that feels so good, this fic from one of the premier writers of Hanfic from back in the day is a small slice of goodness. She's still got it. It doesn't matter one bit whether you know who Scott Moffat is. The feelings transcend such inane details. Read. You won't be sorry.

    Part 1 of 3.

    Taylor Hanson/Jakob Dylan

I have dubbed her the queen of improbably pairings and she was crowned largely on the strength and brilliance of this series.

Zillah can pair people you never, in your wildest dreams, dreamed of pairing, and can make you crave more like a junkie jonesin’ for a fix.

This is lovely, down-to-earth writing from Jakob’s POV, but the emotions are so honest and the wonder and surprise of falling in love and not knowing it can be felt from a thousand miles. Her Taylor is perfectly, utterly spot-on and to a scary degree.

Like I told her, this doesn’t feel like fic to me. This feels real because I believe the fey Mr. Taylor Hanson has exactly this arrangement with someone. I really do. Zillah just took my belief and made it flesh.

Brilliant. Go tell her so she’ll write more!!!

    SYNCFIC

    We Have Just the One

    by Sandy
    Lambs

I’m sure this fic has been around a long time but I could do a whole month of reccing Sandy’s stuff and still not get all the wonderous goodness. Along with lilysaid she is one of the authors that took my purist aversion to popslash and smashed it to smithereens. The writing is that good.

Justin switches universes back and forth to a self where he is a college student with one Nick Carter as dorm mate and the effects are startling. The parts where the rest of the group try to talk to college!Justin are priceless! Could be college AU, but it’s so much more.
Wonderful pitch and pace with not a wasted word or gratuitous emotion.

    But then, it’s Sandy.

    Just lovely.

    Beautiful Disaster
    by Music Diamond
    JC/Nick Carter

Sometimes, no matter how indifferent you are to a pairing, you'll find the exception. That's what this fic is.

It's Nick Carter/ JC Chasez of all things, and a wonderful jewel of a fic. No broad gestures or fancy words, the dialogue is understated, the interaction touchingly awkward, and the whole thing has a sweetness like a whispered endearment.

It made me cry, just a little, just enough to smart, and that's a good thing.

    Well worth a read.

    Pacific
    by Juli
    TrickC, Lambs

Wonderful, sweet, hot fic about an expedition across uncharted territory during the American Revolution and it is just as amazing as it sounds.

Five men set out to find the Pacific and on the way find each other in all ways that matter. Sweet, sweet unfolding of relationships, hot seduction scenes and every note rings as true as an eagles call on the open plane.

Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion and this gem of an AU fic will deliver! Pairings are TrickC and Lambs.

    BUFFY

    Little Shadow
    by Witling
    Spike/Xander

No one writes s/x hurt like Witling and this is an excellent example of her sheer genius.
She can offer up a slice of fic like the segment of a bittersweet orange; you feel the tang on your tongue and your eyes kind of smart at the sensation, but it tastes so good and you still want more.

Post-Apocalyptic. The boys wonder where to go from here in this pitch perfect fic.

    Believed to be Seen
    by xoverau
    Eminem/Wesley, GEN

I will rarely, if ever, rec something here that has no sex, romance, or hope thereof.

However, xoverau breaks rules with impunity and she makes me break them, too.

Brilliant take on Marshall's musical discourses and a spot on Wesley I just love. The perfect characterizations alone are worth the price of admission.

It is nothing for Nico to do this: hand me my two favorite fandoms in one place without even knowing she's made me so happy. Such is the woman’s brilliance.

Wonderful read. You won't be sorry.

    LOTRIPS

**I have not one but two, TWO, AQ recs! Whee! One can never have enough AQ recs. Kind of like chocolate.

    Marked for Life
    by Abundantly Queer
    Viggo/Orlando/Elijah

One person on feedback described this ficlet as 'jagged' and I think that's more apt than anything I'll write next.

Absolutely beautiful rendering of these three voices interacting on a winter's day and the ice outside matches this brittle, crystal lyricism that is anything but cold.

As amazing as all of AQ's fic and those last fifty words steal your soul.

    Five Little Words
    by Abundantly Queer
    Orlando/Elijah

PWP like only Abundantly Queer can do: scorching, lyrical, perfect heat so the desperation spills off the page like sharp glass.

The master of Orlijah does not disappoint.

    CSI

    One Good Man
    by Geekwriter
    Greg/Nick

Once in a while, just once in a while, I stumble on a pairing I kind of like in a fandom where I do watch the show but rarely read the fic. Even more rarely I stumble upon slash from that fandom and rarer than that I find slash that rocks my world.

    Hence this fic.

Greg, or, as I call him, cutie-pie lab geek, and Nick, otherwise known as hot transplanted Southern crumpet, find each other on a San Francisco seminar trip. The fic has great plot, a good pace, and the sex melds seamlessly into the fabric of the writing, all things that I look for in a story.

Though it always jars me when characters start calling each other 'baby' and 'sweetie' right away when it doesn't fit in my personal, private character sketch, that's just me and in no way detracts from the delight of this fic.

And it's looooooooooooong. The fic. I've always liked the ones that went on for a while.

    Give it a go!

    HARRY POTTER

In the Shadow of His Wings
    by Mirabella
    Harry/Draco

I could not, could NOT, stop reading once I began.

Lush and intricate and perfect character-wise it grabbed me by the lapels from the first paragraph and didn't let go. I love her Draco, beautiful but older and wise but narrow when it comes to those he loves. I love her Harry, still noble and kind, but tired and in denial and at a loss as to what happened to the life he used to have. It takes place several years after everyone has graduated from Hogwarts and is a thing of crystal, painful beauty. Warnings for character death and because it is a WIP. I could care less. It's that fucking good.

    EMINEM

    Maybe
    by Ami
    Eminem/Orlando Bloom

Yeah, I know she’s my beta. What of it?

It’s Orlando (yes, THAT Orlando) and Marshall and it’s just a fling, godammit. It is!

She has woven a handful of ficlets into an aching, hot thing of beauty that had me pining for the next installment, PINING! These are wonderful, spare, almost jagged little pieces of genius and one can see the growing attraction, the burgeoning feeling through the denial and the fear and the need. So much punch packed in so concise a package and it knocks you back several paces without even trying.

    Fantastic. Trust me on this.

    LoTRIPS

Sniper Sight by [info]abundantlyqueer, NC-17 on the whole.
    Billy/Elijah, Orlando/Dom

This woman just keeps getting better and knocking me hard with her Lotrips portryals. Orlando is blind but can see just fine, Elijah always wears dark glasses, Billy loves him, and Dom is just trying to do everything right. I love the way this woman writes so, so much and this is no exception. Hot and touching and funny in turns it is sheer genious, but then, it's AQ. 'Nuff said.

Just scroll down to where it says 'Sniper Sight' and thank [info]maidazia for the compilation.

    HARRY POTTER

Left My Heart by [info]emmagran01, Ratings from PG to NC-17 eventually.
    Harry/Draco

Wonderful post Hogwarts H/D set in the Castro in San Francisco and it has everything! Draco is an auror who has disappeared and Harry is sent to find him. Has a fascinating cast of OCs and spot on characterization all around. All that and plot and hotness, too!

Where has this fic been all my life?

Longish and worth it. Give it a go.

A Soft Spot for Lost Causes by [info]helenish, She has no rating but it starts at PG then goes to NC-17 is my best guess.
    Draco/Ron

Draco/Ron is one of those HP pairings that snuck right up and mugged me. I’m usually a Harry/Draco girl; OTP and all that. However, I was, if not converted, convinced, that Draco/Ron could be a fine, fine thing when done right. And Helenish does this so right.

Broken!Draco and Earnest!Ron and much angst, miscommunication, emotion and hot & heavy abound. The pitch is perfect and the tone to the characters without reproach, including a deliciously snarky Hermione I fell in love with. It is amazing.

I knew it would be good when I saw it was Helenish. I know her work from the NSYNC fandom and she’s written some of the most poignant, amazing fic there, too. We are very fortunate she has turned her talents to this fandom, and so brilliantly.
    Go. Read. Worship.

    SYNCFIC

The Language of Heiroglyphs by [info]arsenicjade, PG-13.
    JC/Bill Weasley

The absolute cutest, most divine thing I've read in a long, long time.
The inimitable JC Chasez of 'NSYNC fame (because I refuse to say 'formerly' until Mrs. Timberlake gets his head out of his ass) gets lost in a pyramid in Egypt and runs across Bill Weasely of the Harry Potter and The Burrow Weasleys.
What follows is one of the most darling, funny crossovers I've read. But then, it is Arsenic, and some authors just take one name, like Madonna, but with more talent: Mad Poetess. AlexandriaBrown. Eliade. Pet. Witling.
    And Arsenic.

I don't mean to leave out other fantastic writers that started, or at least resided prolifically, in the the Buffy fandom. But I will say I remember Arsenic from then and this is so very her. She is one of the only authors I will read whether there is smut or not, and that's saying something.

Read this, yo. It will make you giggle and smile and leave a warm fuzzy in your heart

    Oz/Xander

Incredibly hot, sweet Xander/Oz. Langorous and sticky as a summer’s day. Lovely.

Scenes from the Floating World by [info]glossing, R.
    Oz/Giles

Ozfic is hard to write. I say this and remain convinced of it because I have, of course, been there, and that short little fucker kicked my ass all over the page. It is difficult unless you are, of course, Glossing.

Not since Kate Bolin have I read such an effortless, perfect rendering of this character I love so much. The fact that is is a Giles pairing makes this doubly amazing. She writes a quiet, intense fic interspersed with translations of Japanse poetry. Only Glossing.

If you get squicked by the Giles thing, away with you. If not, then go read. You won’t be sorry.

I have some mad respect for writers who can take canon and build a world in it and that's what this does. Wonderfully poignant and true it takes place after Xander loses his eye. One of the best h/c fics I've read because the hurts real, the comfort's on both sides, and the hotness reads as a perfect part of their discovery. Amazing.

    Buffy rps: Cracktrailer!AU

This is why I love fandom. Someone says something in mirthful passing, someone else sparks an idea, and the avalanche begins. Such it was with this spate of fics starring Buffy rps and Lotriips rps folks. The fic that has sprung from this experiment in an AU verse is some of the most gritty, real, earthen writing I've ever read.

Not a lot of people are present at the birth of a genre, gente. Show some respect.

Okay. I don't care if you don't have a clue on god's earth who Vincent Kartheiser is. This searing PWP set in a positively 'Deliverance' universe a truly poetic slice of trailer slash with not one false note to be found. From RosFod, who could only write Vincent this way if she truly loved him. Orlando Bloom's not bad, either. We all know who HE is, right?

Kita's brilliant, down-home trailer trash crackfic that has you smellling the axle grease and dirt. Each time I read it the complexity of everything just sucker punched me: the depth of the characters in a few, well chosen words, the implications that speak volumes, the language, beautiful and earthy-gritty, so vivid I could hold it in my hands.

Buffy/Angel RPS and you absolutely don't have to know shit about that because this slice of slash fills you up and spills over like the finest malt liqour. Kita, man. Nobody does this better.

A bare, honest portrayal of the more loving than loved and have we all of us not been there before? This is a WIP but don't let that dissuade you. This is lovely and heartbreaking and you'll be glad you read.

    Orlando/Elijah
    NC-17

Yeah, I know. That's one of those pairings I can leave or take, but mostly leave. Like JC/Lance or Joey/Chris I, for some reason, find the physical essence of the two characters too similar. Orlando Bloom and Elijah Wood are both pretty boys, fair of skin and dark of hair, and not so much with the manly good looks. However, luvsbitch recced this on her Lotrips list and I'd seen it other places so finally I said, "Okay. Hit me."

And damn. GodDAMN, people!!! Why did I wait this long??? The whole world has read this! It's called the primer of Orli/Lijah slash! I hate it when I'm slow!

I have re-read this an embarassing number of times, and I just don't usually do that. It is the most lyrically erotic portrayal of first time sex I have read in a very long time. Every word is perfect, the pitch and tone are amazing and the seduction is an unhurried, blistering, at times laugh-out-loud, wonder.

I did not care for the denouement but I don't care for mixing het sex with my slash; that's just me.

Take my word for it and check this out. Because slash this good should just be READ, man.

I love it when I discover an author(s) so fantastic I must rec more than one piece of work. And, yeah. I saw the vampire!JC tag and thought,'Oh, for good lord' but, people. This is GOOD. Gorgeous, lush writing that evokes all the exhiliration of the vampire genre and seduces you as surely as Justin is seduced. As addictive and dark as the richest wine.

You would not believe how much and how long I fought reading this story. No matter how many times it was recced nor how many respected writers spoke highly I would take one look at the number of chapters, see medieval syncslash, and get on down the road. Finally, after realizing the 'Descent' writer was behind it, I caved.

    So glad I did.

You have to trust in where the author is taking you, and she does not disappoint. I was utterly unprepared for the sweetness of this fic. Blossoming love, cloistered and pure, and it is just like a flower blooming before you. People have probably already read this way ago, but that's never stopped me. If one more person delves in my work is done.

Think about that combo, folks. I believe I just went into sugar shock.

Sweet and funny and you can feel the emotions tumbling all nervous and young and eager. With, as someone said, the best 'almost kiss' I've read in a while. Just darling. Go urge them to hurry with more.

    Xander/Dom, pre-slash

If there is anything I love more than a good xover fic I don't know what it is, and it is very, VERY hard to find good Buffy/LoTrips xovers. She also calls it 'stupid and pointless' and I must beg to differ. Pre-slash right now but the electricity between the two is palpable and the effortless crafting of both worlds melds like milk in coffee.

I love these two in this: both tired, older, somewhat bitter, and just trying to soldier the fuck on. It has a poignant quality that drew me in and kept me, and I can't wait for her to update.

It is a work in progress so, if those annoy you, move on. If not, this is worth the read.

    HARRY POTTER

    http://www.rebeccalizard.net/nlts/stories/invisibletosee.html
    Harry/Draco, Draco/Justin

Draco returns to the fold of Hogwarts after choosing the other side and has trouble distinguishing between freinds and enemies.

This wonderful post-Order of the Pheonix fic is from Draco's POV and shows a wonderfully vulnerable, brittle Draco. Her grasp of canon and characterization are top notch and I couldn't stop reading once I began. Lovely fic.

    A Taste of Liberty Lamardeuse
    http://poutinette.tripod.com/hp/hpindex.htm
    Harry/Snape, Brian/Justin

Harry gets fed up with the pressure, is spurned by Snape, and takes off across the pond for a bit of exploration.

If it has not become apparent by now, I am a total xover junkie. This manages to combine two totally distinct universes, the Harry Potter World and that of QaF's Liberty Avenue, so seamlessly it is amazing. I love these two verses and would never have thought this was possible, but it is, and it is done wonderfully.

This is not a pairing I read very often, and not because of the age difference. I tend to be a Draco/Harry person. However, when done right, Harry/Snape can be a great read, and this captures Snapes struggle to do the right thing and Harry's equally strong determination to show him he IS the right thing.

Grabbed me and didn't let me go until the last chapter. Skillful, funny, engaging fic.

I read this a while ago and it just blew me away. Synecdochic combines syncslash with elements of folk tales, theology and mysticism for a fic that transcends the paltry label of 'popslash.' It is TimberTrick and one of the most intelligently literate things I've read.

Now she's writing sequels! *bounces in happiness* For a BIGGER SEQUEL! *bounces more* Following is the first of what is apparently a series of ficlets leading up to a sequel of the above fic. This can only be a good thing. First ficlet is here:

Ah, Lily. How I love Lily. She will make me read things I swear I would not touch for any other author, and Chris/Joey is one. It's just not one of my most favorite NSYNC pairings, but Lily works her magic and brings forth a lovely fic about friendship caught fire. She doesn't gloss over the difficult bits but captures Chris's addled reasoning and Joey's steadfastness with a joy only a true popslash lover is cabapble of.

    I love Lily. Read this.

    EMINEM RPS

    Bitch, Please Queenie
    Eminem/Pharrell

Queenie wrote the very first fic that enticed me into Emslash, Whispers, and she has been one of my favorite Emslash writers ever since.

I've also been waiting for someone to slash the beauty that is Pharrell with ANYBODY of note, and Queenie obliged in grand fashion.

I love how she paints their interaction: tentative, nervous, strong in the attraction. It is a WIP, and she updates infrequently, but what is there is more than worth the read.

    First Post
    Hola everyone!

    *crickets chirping*

Well, yes. I just began this, pretty much a total excercise in wankdom, since I've no idea if anyone will even look in here. I just know I often run across fic so amazing I am possessed of the need to rec RIGHT NOW, THIS INSTANT so everyone can read!

    Hence, this lj.

I can say my tastes run to longish fics, since I like a story to go on a while, but I will also rec drabbles and one-shots. It depends on the quality, really. I love romance, well-written sex, and any fic that manages to spin a pairing, fandom, or situation on its ear.

So without further ado, here are my first slew of recs.

    Harry Potter

    Beautiful World by Cinnamon
    Harry/Draco

This is an amazing H/D fic where Harry realizes he is going to die on his sixteenth birthday but falls in love with Draco before. Lush, wonderful prose so you can almost reach in and hold it. It brought me to tears and stayed with me for a long time. Wonderful work.

A Choriambic Progression by Mairead Triste and Aristide
    Harry/Snape

Okay, I want you to listen to me. I don't care if Snape/Harry squicks you. I don't care if the age difference gives you the wiggins. You have to give this a go. I am the first to admit I'm a Harry/Draco 'shipper so it's one hell of a story that will make me read Harry/Snape. This is heartbreaking and dysfunctinonal and very, very good. I can't believe its the authors first foray into this fandom. Rich language and characters that never hit a false note, this is a gem. Trust me.

    Hanson fic

    Hyper Twins by Alexandriabrown
    Zac Hanson/Chris Kirkpatric

How much do I love Alexandria? I've been following her since she wrote Buffy fic than fell into the sparkling sea of popslash where I have, at long last, followed her. This is a yummy PWP involving Zac (who's 18 thankyouerymuch</b>), Chris, and a 'shaggin' wagon'! LOL. One can only hope Alex graces us with more. Read. It's sure to bring a smile to your face.

    Fifteen Minutes by xoverau
    Taylor Hanson/Eminem

Nico, man. The woman will be the death of me. This fic is what pushed me headlong into the recently uncharted waters of Hanson fic. Only Nico can rip out your heart and hand it to you with a few well chosen paragraphs, and make you happy for the pain.

An accident leaves Taylor alone except for a certain white rapper. Sad and hot and wonderful, each emotion clear as a bell on Christmas morn. Nico is a genious. Worship her.
